Degree Requirements
A minimum of 43 credits is required for the Master of Science in Literacy (grades 5-12) and Special Education (grades 7-12) program. This program is designed for people who already hold New York State certification in secondary/adolescence education, whether provisional or permanent. Satisfactory performance on a written comprehensive examination is required (see graduation requirements). Successful completion of the program will lead to a Master of Science in Education in Literacy (grades 5-12) and Special Education (grades 7-12). In addition, successful candidates will be recommended for New York State certification in Literacy (grades 5-12) and Special Education (grades 7-12). The core components of 22 credits in literacy education and 21 credits in special education are required. Required Literacy Courses

* A candidate not having a grade of at least a B in a Behavior Management course within 5 years of admission to the program will have to take ED 5042 and earn a grade of at least B in addition to the 43 credits listed above. |
